RED CARPET FROM THE PAST: ARCHIVAL FASHION COLLECTION AT OSCAR 2024

Some A-list stars opted for designs from the archives of renowned brands, gracing the Oscar red carpet in classic ensembles. From iconic designers to bygone eras, these stars breathed new life into the past, proving that fashion indeed follows a cyclical pattern.

Recreated designs from the archives have become a popular choice on recent red carpets. At the Oscar Vanity Fair after-party, there was a display of numerous classic styles, including Margot Robbie’s yellow corset from Thierry Mugler’s Spring-Summer 1996 collection and Cardi B’s crystal-adorned Versace gown from the Spring-Summer 2003 collection. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence and Sydney Sweeney chose to honor fashion history. Jennifer wore Givenchy’s white lace dress from the Fall-Winter 1996 Haute Couture collection, previously worn by Kate Moss on the runway, while Sydney selected a gown from Marc Bouwer’s archive, once worn by Angelina Jolie at the Academy Awards 20 years ago.

AFTER PARTY At the 2024 Oscar Vanity Fair after-party, Jennifer Lawrence donned a sheer floral dress from Givenchy’s Fall-Winter 1996 Haute Couture collection. This was the final Haute Couture collection by designer John Galliano before he was appointed as the creative director of Dior. The small anecdotes of fashion history don’t stop there. Jennifer’s enchanting white dress was originally worn by supermodel Kate Moss on the runway 28 years ago.

The vintage gold piece was adorned with rhinestones and shimmering sequins, featuring a fringe trim embellished with crystals.

The female rapper looked sensationally alluring in a lace-accented gown from Atelier Versace’s Spring-Summer 2003 Haute Couture collection titled “Mysterious Midnights.” Although the dress wasn’t as brightly colored as expected, it showcased exceptional craftsmanship and enduring aesthetics in the face of time. Sydney Sweeney showcased timeless Hollywood allure at the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party and paid homage to a legendary actress. She wore a classic cream-colored Marc Bouwer dress while posing on the red carpet. This design was originally worn by Angelina Jolie at the 2004 Oscars. Sydney Sweeney paired the satin dress with a deep neckline and low back with Messika jewelry, including a standout layered necklace and a pair of studded earrings.
