UEFA EURO 2024 has officially kicked off in Germany with the participation of 24 teams. For fashion enthusiasts, this is also an occasion to admire the match kits of national teams from around the globe. Below, The Athletic highlights the standout designs at this year’s EURO.
1. Denmark: The top spot for standout match kit at EURO 2024 belongs to the Danish national team. Designed predominantly in white and red with a square pattern, it is created by the renowned sportswear brand Hummel. Allan Vad Nielsen, CEO of Hummel, mentioned that this kit represents the heart and soul of Danish football. By printing the names of all 1,535 football clubs in Denmark on the inside of the jersey, the brand aims to recognize and honor countless volunteers, players, and local residents who have contributed to future generations. 2. England: Recent jerseys of the England national team have not been particularly eye-catching, some even likened to outdated replicas. However, the debut design at EURO 2024 marks a spectacular return to fashion for the team. The kit epitomizes a minimalist yet captivating style, with sleeve and pant piping adding effective highlights. 3. Italy: After 19 years of collaboration with Puma, starting from 2023, the Italian national team has switched to adidas. The kit unveiled at EURO 2024 is designed by adidas, embodying a strong national spirit with three horizontal stripes in green, white, and red across the shoulders, reminiscent of Italy’s flag and team emblem. The jersey features two shades of blue, with the front in a lighter blue and the sides in a darker hue. Photo: adidas.
4. Poland: The Polish national team made an impressive debut with a minimalist design featuring white and red as the primary colors. The sharp red collar and sleeve trim add distinct accents. At the center of the jersey is the team’s eagle emblem, contributing to an overall dynamic look. Nike is the brand behind this attire. 5. Slovenia: Slovenia may be a small team at EURO 2024, but if qualification were based solely on the quality of their match attire, they would surely secure a spot. Their home kit features a white base with a diamond pattern running vertically down the jersey. Notably, stylized mountain motifs adorn the chest, inspired by the country’s terrain. The away kit follows a similar design but with a primary color of sea blue. Photo: Nike, REUTERS.
6. Romania: Romania did not introduce a new kit for EURO 2024, yet their attire remains among the most distinctive. Their kit stands out with vibrant yellow, complemented by green and red trim on the sleeves, shorts, and socks. The overall look is balanced and retains a sporty spirit. However, it is noted that these kits do not carry as much iconic appeal as some of their previous Adidas designs. Photo: REUTERS.
7. Spain: adidas, the brand responsible for Spain’s match jerseys, states that the kits draw inspiration from the beauty of Spain’s national flower and the smooth movement of ocean waves. Despite describing the base pattern on these jerseys as “eye-catching,” in reality, fans may need to observe closely to discern it. Nevertheless, this does not diminish the overall allure of the bold design featuring vibrant tones of red, blue, and yellow. Photo: REUTERS.
8. Czech Republic: In recent years, Puma’s sportswear designs haven’t received high praise. However, the brand has bounced back with a new design for the Czech Republic national team at EURO 2024. The kit features a red base with a dark blue collar and sleeve trim, sharply accented by a prominent lion emblem. Yet, the bold, dark shades of this pattern can easily make wearers appear sweaty right from the start. Photo: David W Cerny/REUTERS.
